God Is Always Marvelous

When we think of God, we often think of the out-of-the ordinary. He is after all, the Most High and Lofty One, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and all those other awesome titles that we give Him out of reverence and love. We think of how He parted the Red Sea, spoke through the burning bush, fed 5,000 people with the five loaves and two fishes, and raised Lazarus from the dead, not to mention, His own resurrection. Perhaps He has worked a miracle or two in your life. We've all had a time in our lives that something awesome or miraculous happened, and we knew it had to come from God.

Do you think of God on a day when nothing exciting or awful happens? A routine day that passes without anything worth noting. You go to bed tired, but not exhausted and are able to fall into an untroubled sleep. Are those awesome names we have given Him going through your mind right before you fall asleep or when you wake up the following morning?

The majority of our lives are made up of ordinary, mundane days. Because they can be repetitious, we may become lazy and fall into a rhythm and just go with it. It’s easy to forget God on those days. I know because I’m guilty of letting a day go by without realizing that God is just as awesome on that day as He was when he parted the Red Sea and rose from the dead.

It’s so easy when things are going smoothly to just ease out of relating to the Lord. We know He is there, but we don’t acknowledge Him as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Sadly, we don't turn to Him or praise Him until we have a problem or a miracle.

We forget the fact that we wake up in the morning and get out of bed is a blessing. Because we do it so often, it is the norm for us. We don’t consider how marvelous that really is until we wake up with a cold, fever, pain or some other ailment that makes waking up in the morning not so easy.

There’s also the automatic things our body does that we take for granted like our breathing spreads oxygen through our bodies, our heart beating sends blood throughout our circulatory system, and our skeletal system and muscles allow us freedom of movement so we can go and do whatever we choose on any given day. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

Even though we are having a mundane and normal day, we are a living miracle.  He created our bodies to work as they do and gave us another day to live on the earth. Any day that goes by without any big problems and no health issues should be counted as a blessing.

The Lord is awesome because He is who He is. We can count on Him to never change. He's all powerful, all knowing and always there. The miracle of His love is ever present in our lives.

The key is to relate to Him daily. He waits for us in the quiet of our hearts. There’s nothing He wants more than to spend time, no matter how brief. When we enter into His presence, we can’t help but be mindful of the miracle of our everyday lives. We are reminded of His glory and power as we read the Bible. When we pray, we can feel His calm, loving presence. He who is holy, powerful and loving wants to be with us. That fact alone is not only humbling, but praiseworthy and miraculous. It turns an ordinary day into an extraordinary one.

My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high.  My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.  There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.  1 Samuel 2:1-2
